Still pretty early in the painting process on that. Hopefully I'll knock it out tomorrow.
The Librarian on bike is MOSTLY done, still need to base him and do some more touch up work. Not my best work, but not my worst. I think the model looked cooler before I painted it.
The project of tonight was to get my Librarian on Bike assembled. I'm really looking forward to getting him painted. I hope with the changes coming in 6th edition and the new psyker abilities, that he's worth fielding because he's probably one of my favorite looking models in my army.
So I started working on my Techmarine with Conversion Beamer/Thunderfire Cannon today. I like the way that it's coming together so far. I still need to put some more purity seals and other stuff on the cannon itself so that it looks less Tauy and more Space Mariney.
My plan is to keep the gun removable so that I can come up with something that looks more like a Thunderfire Cannon although I think I could probably leave it as is and no one would really question it.
I don't know how I would be able to function without my Dremel tool anymore. It makes cutting through the pewter models sooooooo easy.
Hopefully I'll have more to show tomorrow, maybe even get it primed.
Stormtalon is now assembled. I don't care what some people on the internet say, I LOVE this model.
More headless models!
I also got a visit from the Warhammer Fairy today... aka UPS guys.
It's a good thing I got the assembly done on the Stormtalon because now I'm chomping at the bit to get started in on Command Squad and "Thunderfire Cannon." I know it's only been 1 day since I made the post about what I'm going to do with all these guys, but I am thinking that might change. I had 1 extra biker that I was going to turn into a standard trooper, however, after reading into some of the 40k rumors and some of the leaks, I get the feeling that once 6th Edition comes out later this month, I'll be wanting to have a Psyker. The cool hooded guy that comes in this box would make for a pretty awesome base to a Librarian so I'll probably go ahead and make one.
Well I just finished watching my OKC Thunder lose again, so I think it's time for a drink...
Slow but steady progress on the Storm Talon. I told myself that I wasn't going to start working on it till all my bikes were painted, but I have will power of a 5 year old in a candy store. That lasted all of about a day.. day and half tops.
I convinced myself that if I got it assembled and primed at least, I'd be able to field it sooner..
So here's what's on the agenda for my Space Marines. I have a Ravenwing Battalion Box coming from Miniwargaming(ordered it when it was their sale item of the day), and there is also a Techmarine and an Apothacary coming from GW.
The plan is to take 5 of the bikes from the battalion box and make a command squad (that's what the Apothacary is for.) The 6th bike in the box will just be a regular marine biker to even out the number of bikes I have in the 2 troop choice squads.
That leaves us with the Landspeeder(no funny plans with that) and the attack bike from the battalion box. Having a single attack bike would be useless especially since I now have 3 fast attack choices (Landspeeder, Landspeeder Storm, Storm Talon.) So what I've come up with is that I'm going to put the Techmarine on attack bike and instead of putting an additional marine in the passenger seat, I'll put some sort of crazy gun and field it as a Thunderfire Cannon (putting it on a bike will actually serve the dual purpose of making it more thematic with my army) OR I can field it as a Techmarine on bike with Conversion Beamer.( Much like the one pictured here.) I have a Tau Ion Cannon that I think might pass pretty well for the conversion beamer, and if I magentize it I'll use something like a Helblaster Volley gun to make the Thuderfire Cannon.
That'll bring my Marine army up to a respectable 1850 points...
Got a game of Fantasy in today. This was my first real big encounter with the Vampire Counts since they got their new army book recently. I thought we were gonna do 2k, but last minute we decided to bump it up 2500.
For 2k, I was going to run my Carpet Deathfist Slaughtermaster list but we moved the game up to 2500 points I tried just throwin in an additonal 500 points worth of models. In hindsight might not have been the best idea. It was a great game though. It essentially came down to a single 4+ ward save roll.. that I failed.
First time I ever played against this opponent and hopefully not the last. I think I'd like to take another crack at those damn Vampire Counts.
It actually wasn't that brutal of a game. Mostly I was killing zombies and stuff that would come back. Top of Turn 1 I flew up and turned his nasty Lvl 4 Vampire into a level 0 caster. Wasn't able to do the same to his lvl 2. Once I finally moved into position to throw Purple sun down his flank... I rolled a 2 on the distance killing some skeletons and leaving me close enough to his Mortis Engine so that it could Howl and take out my Slaughtermaster. Big mistake on my part, I'll know in the future to stay the hell away from them. My Ironblaster blew its gun off in Turn 1 so it became just a chariot after that... but an effective one. I think in the end it did more damage then any other of my units, wiping out a Vargheist and a unit of zombie so it was def my MVP. LVP goes to good ole George the Gorger. He didn't bother showing up till turn 5 and then rolled snake eyes for his charge move making him completely useless as always. Guess I'll have to update the George the Gorger page again to reflect his new failure.
That's not all the awesomeness of today either. Had my birthday dinner with all my people. Went to this awesome German restaurant. Good food, reallly good beer, and no one mentioned the war.
Got some new Warhammer goodies too.
I'm both looking forward to and dreading assembling and painting the Storm Talon. I just hope I don't make mine look like shit.
And to wrap up this post, I wanted to throw up some pictures of my scout snipers. They're mostly done, some cleanup here and there , throw on a couple heads, and I am still working on an exploding arrow looking thing to designate who has the Missile launcher in the group.
As few to none of you may know, my birthday is fast approaching, and I got one of my gifts early. Check it out....
Took it for a small test drive tonight, it's going to take for me to feel really comfortable with it but already I was able to get a nice even coat of white paint on one of my space marine bikes. I was going to take picture but with my camera you really can't tell the difference.
I'd like to be able to say something about the airbrush set, but since it's my first one, this thing could be utter shit and I wouldn't know. I can comment on how much the directions suck. It's a small paragraph of how to assemble it all without any pictures. Eventually I was able to get it working, but I would say it took a good 15 - 20 mins to get it all working properly.
I've done quiet a bit of reading on airbrushing and the first rule of airbrushing is to thin your paints. I hadn't realized by how much till tonight. So here's the official Sigmar's Workbench guide to thinning your paints.
1. Do I think it's thin enough? If no add water. If yes, you're wrong add more water.
2. Now that I've added more water, do I think it's thin enough? If no add water. If yes, WRONG AGAIN! Add water and try again.
3. Ok now I'm pretty sure I've ruined it with all this water. I'm such a dumbass. Now it's perfect!
On a non-airbrush related matter, I'm a step or 3 closer to having finished the Close Combat Scout Squad. I think I've slopped about all the paint on it I can, now it's time to start adding in more detail and making sure to color inside the lines.
Painting has begun on the close combat scouts. They look a little sloppy because I was just knew I had to go back in and paint white all over them so no need to be too anal this early.
The multi-meltas I orded from Bitzbarn are now painted and glued onto the attack bikes. I know what you're thinking.. thats not the standard space marine attack bike MM. I just thought these looked better so I bought them. They're from the Land Raider box.
