Close Combat Scouts

Got a package from the glorious BitzBarn today.  It was the parts for making my Tomahawk (aka Combat Blades) Scouts.  Assembly is done, but I have to wait for some of the Green Stuff to fully dry. I had to put a little dab on the end of the Tomahawk arms so that they would maktch up with the space marine torsos.

To make his legs look less odd, I made him a base so that it would look like he's sitting on a pile of rocks.

I love any excuse to throw another Power Fist in my army, so that's what I did with this groups Sgt. Nothing says Badass like a shotgun and Powerfist.

First Blood

For the first time, my space marines have hit the tabletop in a real game.  The PLAN was to take some pictures along the way when I had some downtime, however, I didn't do that.  I took A picture... not a number, but a letter amount of pictures... and it's a bad one.

There are pictures of Bigfoot that are better than this.

Here's my list. Some options I don't necessarily think I'd always take, but I was trying to squeeze as many points as possible in to get up to 1000.  I still fell short by 30.

         HQ (205pts)

  • Kor'Sarro Khan (205pts)
    Moondrakken

Elites (140pts)

  • Dreadnought (140pts)
Extra Armour, Twin-Linked Autocannon, Twin-Linked Autocannon

Troops (560pts)

  • Scout Squad (130pts)
    • 4x Scout
4x Camo Cloaks, Missile Launcher, 3x Sniper Rifle
    • Scout Sergeant
Camo Cloak, Melta Bombs, Power Fist, Sniper Rifle
  • Space Marine Bike Squad (Troops) (205pts)
2x Meltagun, 3x Space Marine Biker
    • Attack Bike
      Multi-Melta
    • Biker Sergeant
      Melta Bombs, Power Weapon
  • Space Marine Bike Squad (Troops) (225pts)
2x Plasma Gun, 3x Space Marine Biker
    • Attack Bike
      Multi-Melta
    • Biker Sergeant
      Melta Bombs, Power Fist

Fast Attack (65pts)

  • Land Speeder Storm (65pts)
    Multi-Melta

Well as you can CLEARLY see on the picture, the game was 3 Space Marine chapters (1000 points each) vs Necrons and Chaos Space Marines(1500 points each.)

Rolled off for game mission, it was a Necron mission.  3 objectives, only scoring units can take the objective.  Once you touch the objective it's yours till another enemy scoring unit touches.  Outflanking wasn't allowed in this mission so that special rule was negate for my army.  A common theme throughout this game.  All units were stubborn, so the launchers on my Storm was useless as well.

The other players held the center of the board and because my army is extremely mobile, we did what we do best, take to the flanks.  The majority of my army was deployed on the right side of the board (the 2 bike squads and dread) while my scouts infiltrated into a building on the far side of the board, and the land speeder storm did a scout move to join them.

My army did fairly well for the most part.  The Storm had it's Multi Melta blown off in the bottom of turn after failing to hit anything with it, and became nothing more than a taxi for the scouts.  My two bike squads(one of them at half strength after taking some shots from the Necrons) and the Khan took down a unit Khrone Berzerkers in a Rhino but it cost them dearly... leaving me with just the Khan, and the 2 Powerfist captains.

The Dreadnaught opened fire into his Chaos counterpart and destroyed him on the first turn, then took out a few Necron Destroyers, before the Destroyers retaliated with Heavy Gauss fire and exploded him.

My Scouts on the far left side of the board lit up another unit of Necron Destroyers and took out 3 of them, and "killed" the Destroyer lord(he got back up)

As the game began to come to a close, the scouts jumped inside the Land Speeder Storm and hauled ass towards the open objective on my opponents' side of the board, (the necron destroyer lord chasing and failing to destroy it) and eventually claimed it for our side.  Giving us 2 objectives and the win.

At the end of the game, I had the Khan and 4 scouts remaining alive.  It was a great game, and I love the way this army plays.  I made a few mistakes, like not realizing that I could have Hit and Run my guys out of combat with the Berzerkers and then ran back in to get my Furious charge and additional attacks.  Also, I misplaced the Khan in the first round of combat with the Berzerkers and ended up with him not attacking.  I have to think I would have had more bikes alive if I hadn't screwed the pooch on that one.

MVP is the Khan.  He killed a good bit of things (Berzerks, Destroyers, Necron Warriors) and just wouldn't die.  He tied up a huge squad of necron warriors so that they couldn't come take the object the scouts nabbed in the endgame.

LVP is hard because honestly I think everyone did reasonable well.  If I gotta pick one, it would be Storm.  Offensively he didn't do anything.  It did fly the scouts onto the objective, but I also had a powerfist biker close enough to claim it as well.  Once I build my Tomahawk Scouts and am playing a mission where getting the -2 Leadership from it, I think the Storm will really be worth his points.

Sorry again for the lack of pictures, I know I've had multiple requests to do a better job of photographing my Battle Reports, but hey.. it's a start!

It's like the French Revolution over here.

Things have sort of slowed to crawl as far as progress goes.  The reason.... headless marines.  Somehow I've managed to misplace my bag of heads.  I've looked high and low and they are nowhere to be found, so I've come to the conclusion that it was sabotage.  We'll start rounding up suspects and doing interrogations... between you and me... I suspect a miniature of Andrew Jackson.

Who... me????

I've decided to press on as much as possible.  I knew I was going to have to order more heads from PuppetsWar, but it looks like I'll be ordering those sooner than I expected.  I've assembled as much as I can and removed the heads their heads.

All of these are now primed, but did you really need a picture of them in white.

I really like how these guys have turned out.

I've completed my "Khan"..... I think.  He ended up borrowing bitz from at least 6 different models from both fantasy and 40k.

I still have to make a standard for that banner pole, which should be interesting.  I've never actually made on.  Usually I stick with pre-made plastic banners like I have for all my Ogre units.  I want to give props ahead of time to From The Warp for this tutorial.  I think it only fair I thank them now before I make a mockery of the awesome work they did with something I'd produce.

I've got more bitz coming in from the good folks at BitzBarn.  I'm doing a unit of close combat scouts and I've managed to snap up some really neat looking throwing axes that will be their combat blades.  The scout leader has a shotgun and a powerfist.

Also in that order, I'm getting some multi-meltas to go into the attack bikes and on the Land Speeder Storm as well as the wheel to complete my last bike.

Not sure what I'll be playing on Saturday, but now that I've got 1000 points worth of guys assembled and based, we might see them get some time on the field.

What I did this weekend

Got a ton of stuff accomplished this weekend, just not all of it wargaming related.  I'd like to think this is wargaming related.

I can read rulebooks in it so it counts.
I didn't completely ignore my wargaming projects.  I got the display/transportation board for the lava bases done.  I didn't get photos of ever step in the process because you've seen how I do my lava bases in other posts.

I've done some more work to models but haven't taken any pictures of it. Nothing really of note, I'll try making a post of everything so far in the near future.

Sniper WIP and Bases

So I've made a decision to go ahead and just do lava bases on the guys for the time being.  It's dirt cheap, look pretty ok, and I can always change my mind later.  The best part about how I do the lava bases is that in 10 seconds you can take an exacto and you've got your base back.  So I did one of every kind of base that I currently need (Dreadnought, Bike, and standard troop) just to make sure that it didn't look too stupid.  Here's the results. (Also testing out a new camera so hopefully the picture quality will go up a bit, even if the subject matter doesn't)

I still need to fix that eye.

Very WIP on the Scout "Sniper"

Taking a suggestion from a friend, I'm going to string up my bows with fishing line instead a guitar string.  I was thinking of using guitar string to give that "Sci-Fi Bow" look, but it doesn't make sense for someone ever  to make a bow string out of metal.  I think the clear fishing line will accomplish the same thing and make more sense.  I started to assemble the rest of the unit last night and I ran out of plastic glue and super glue.  I'm so ashamed.  What self respecting wargamer runs out of glue.

Maybe tonight I'll get the rest of the unit finished.  I'm getting close to finally being able to put these guys on the board.    You know what they say, "Die for the Emperor or Die Trying."
