Khhaaaannnnn!!!!

So I got a package from good ole Gee-Dubs today.  It was the pieces that I ordered for my "Kor'Sarro Khan on Moondraken"

Let me start with saying, I'm a little upset that the riders legs are apart of the steed and not seperate.  I still think I can make it work though... or I'll be filing down those legs.

I cleaned up the sharp edges and whatnot of the Mechanical Steed and Green Stuffed the cracks.

Then taking some of the pieces from the Space Wolves command spure and one of my native heads...

I kind of like the turned to the side look... A.  It helps keep the wolf pelt to the side and B.  It sort of reminds me of that famous picture of Napoleon on horseback.

I get the feeling this is Photoshopped... Napoleon is WAY to tall.

I still need to sort out what to do for a second arm and get a proper 40k bike base for it.. but I'm really excited to get this much done.

So now if we do a grand total of how big my 40k army is.... drumroll please.....

370 points

1 HQ
1 Elite
1 Fast Attack

Guess its about time to start ordering those Ravenwing battalion boxes to make troop choices.

Can you buy stock in White Paint?

You don't realize how much paint you use on a single model, till you paint something a primarily a single color.  I've "finished" my Land Speeder Storm and have about 75% of my Dreadnought completed.  I say "finished" on the Land Speeder Storm because I'm still trying to figure out what symbols/details I'm going to paint on the hull of it, but the primary painting is done.

I still need to chop the stick down on the flying base so that it's just barely hovering above the ground (yeah I know that's cheesy but with true line of sight I'm hiding my Land Speeder.)

Now some pictures of the Dreadnought stuff as it is right now... still got a ways to go.

I still need to make the head of the guy in the dreadnought a little more "mostly dead."  I'm going to attempt to scar up his face really well and change his skin tone some more.

A little less rough around the edges?!?

Still working on the Landspeeder Storm, but its a little less rough.

Sorry for the rough image quality.  It's probably for the best that everything is washed out.  Hopefully I can finish this up tomorrow and start working on the dreadnought.

Put in an order today for my Empire Engineer with Mechanical Steed that will be the basis for my Chapter Master.  Also stumbled upon this...

Space Wolves Command Sprue

First off, I REALLLY like the wolf pelt backpack and that "Frost Axe" with a little feathers here and some work there.. will make for a sweet "tomahawk" kind of Power Weapon.  (Or Moonfang when he's being Kor'sarro)  and who can say no to having an addition Powerfist.  The rest is just gravy... and I love me some gravy.

Little painting done.. not alot.

No big updates today folks.  I think I have the design down for the "basic marine"

Progress is also being made on the Landspeeder Storm.

This is VERY rough.  Basically its primed and inked and I just started applying colors.

The dreadnought is assembled and primed.  The plan is to go "Rifleman" with him(2 pair of twinlinked autocannons), but since the arms are interchangeable I'm going to paint all the arms and weapons that came with him.

I assembled him with his head showing instead of using any of the helmeted heads or just covering up that spot.  I think I'll just make him paler and more half dead looking than everyone else.

I think next order I have to make to Puppetswar I'm going to get a pair of their Twin-Linked Autocannons.  It'll be easier than me trying to convert something plus I like these "shoulder pads" better

I'm like a walking commercial for these guys.  Love everything they produce.  In fact they were showing off some upcoming bikes they are doing yesterday.

I'd love to get 5 of these for my command squad on bike, but I assume it'll probably be a bit to steep in price for my blood.  I'll wait and see once they're released, but I'm not holding my breath.

Tournament Results for 2/11/12

Prepare to have your mind blown in 5...4...3...2...1...

BEST GENERAL!  YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

Also, I ended up in 2nd place for the Overall, but more importantly.. I WON BEST GENERAL.

Free Dreadnaught!
Great tournament all around.  All the guys there are really cool... No "neckbeards."  Was REALLLY surprised that there were no Vampire Counts armies... feel kinda stupid having brought those magic items on my Bruiser and BSB.

In fact the most common used army was Ogres (3 of us.)

Round 1-

Dwarf stationary lots o shooting army-  Scenario was pitched battle with bonus points for kill casters. So no bonus points for me... freaking dwarfs not having any freakin magic....

2 cannons, 2 stone throwers, the anvil of doom, a huge unit of dwarf handgunners, and a huge unit of hammerers.

Knew it wasn't going to be easy for me to win this one because I rolled for my spells and didn't get Purple Sun.  So basically after that my flying carpet SM was useless.  No wizards to snipe with him and no huge purple sun to drop on his troops.

I was shot all to hell, losing my ironblaster before I ever got to do anything with it.  Once I finally managed to make it his side of the board I started to win back points, taking out a hugh unit of dwarf handgunners, then overrunning into a warmachine. Did manage to kill a couple characters and some warmachiens but when all things were said and done, I came out with a loss... Had there been 7 turns instead of just 6, I think I would have tipped it to a Victory.  Still did massive amounts of damage, racking up about 1400 VPs.

Round 2 -

Ogre Deathstar list-  30 man Ogre bull unit w/ all his characters in it, and 2 ironblasters.  A Purple Sun casters dream... and sure enough I get the Purple Sun this time.

Scenario was Dawn Attack.  Turn 1, I fly my Slaughtermaster 1 inch from the flank of the Ogre Deathstar and unload the Large Template version of Purple Sun and cast it with Irresistable Force.  I insta-kill 21 guys, the BSB, Slaughtermaster, and 1 of his 2 ironblaster.  I would have felt bad for him, but as a fellow Ogre player, we all know what it's like to get half your army PS'd into oblivion.  I eventually tabled him, only losing the 2 units of gnoblar trappers (they're supposed to die horribly)

Ended up with over 2200+ VP in that game and only lost 100vp (2x 50 point gnoblar trapper units)

Round 3 -

High Elf army with no shooting - When I realised I was playing on table 2, I knew that I needed to win big and I would be in the running for a prize of some kind.  I figured that the winner of game on table 1 would take home the overall.  Purple Sun is a bit of a waste on Elves with their Initiative value of 5, but I knew he was really relying heavily on his magic and that's what the Greedyfist/Lore of Death combo is best at.  Turn 1, I make his level 4 wizard lose 7 magic levels and forget all his spells.  Turn 2 I wipe the brain of his 2nd caster.  Eventually even used popped his BSB using Lore of Death magic.

The scenario was to capture the most out of 5 objectives.  Basically I held back as much as I could after having taken out all his characters and waited till last second to pounce on the objectives he held to try and contest them.  In the end, I held 2 objectives, he had 1, 2 were contested.  OGRE WIN!

So clearly the MVP for me this game was Slaughtermaster.  He basically won me 2 games.  He is going to be seeing the field carrying this setup in most of my tournament armies.

LVP would have to go to the Ironblaster.  That doesn't mean that I still ain't going to field every game I play, he was just really unluck today.  He misfired a few times, manage to roll his a HE with a cannon ball and not wound them.

Looks like I'm going to have to make another order to Puppetswar.eu for some arms to make a Rifleman Dreadnought.  They have some really cool twin-linked autocannon arms, and I think I'm better of buying from them  (I'd link a picture of them but right now the puppetswar site is not working)

Ok, I been doing all sort of math and planning and nerdery plus I got up at 7am.... I'm going to hit the hay.

12:34am We are prepared for war(hammer)

Army... Check
Dice and Templates... Check
Movement Trays... Check
Army book and Kindle... Check
Spell Markers... Check
Superglue... Check
Display Board... Check

Predictions for tommorow:
1.  Not going to repeat the Best Army award... that was clearly lightning in a bottle.
2.  Going to at least win 2 games. I got a feeling this list is better suited for the meta-game that the local tournament players use.
3.  That I'll have to play another freaking Orc and Goblins army.... it's all I ever get to play.
4.  At least 20% of the armies there are Vampire Counts.

Time to go to sleep, hopefully tomorrow's post will be about how I tabled my opponents 3 times in a row, won the whole tournament, and how they carried me out their shoulders chanting my name. (I'd like to see them try doing that 3rd one actually)

Well That was Easy (trademark)

Let me start by saying, I can't take credit for this one.  All props to go Twon over at OgreStronghold.

Every model in the Ogre army (except for gnoblars) is a multi-wound model, and I dunno if you've ever watched an Ogre try to count but it ain't pretty.  The standard sort method of keeping track of these things is to put a dice down with how many wounds the model has left, or some use little pips or skull markers... whatever.

This is where Twon's brilliance shines through.  Inspired by the stat cards and dry erase markers that Warmachine/Hordes players have, Twon created this.

Within about 30 seconds of seeing these, I was already figuring out where to one printed (I chose the bloody one).  After looking up a few local places, I eventually ended up using Staples' Online Copy and Print center.  They were the cheapest and quickest.  (4.91 for heavy cardstock w/ lamination and 5.00 as a "rush" fee because I wanted it for the tournament tomorrow)  They had it printed and waiting for me within an hour or two.

Apparently I clicked the button that said "Print this shit as big as possible"

Making sure that it comes off.

It did print a LITTLE on the big side, but I can trim it down a bit because there is a lot of empty space on the top and bottom, but at least this way my opponent will be able to clearly see if from across the table.

Looks like I'm almost 100% ready for the tournament tomorrow.  Got to throw together some movement trays and paint em up, but as I've said before, I feel weird if I have nothing to do the night before.

2k Purple Sun Ogre List

This is the planned army for Saturday's tournament.

1 Lord: 375 Pts.   18.7%
3 Heroes: 429 Pts.   21.4%
4 Core Units: 690 Pts.   34.5%
3 Special Units: 336 Pts.   16.8%
1 Rare Unit: 170 Pts.   8.5%

Slaughtermaster, lvl4, Arabyan Carpet, Greedy Fist, Lore of Death - 375 Pts.

Bruiser, General, Ironfist, HA, Tormentor Sword, Talisman of Endurance - 148 Pts.
Bruiser, Ironfist, HA, Warrior Bane, BSB - 143 Pts.
Butcher, Ironfist, lvl2, Lore of The Great Maw - 138 Pts.

7 Ironguts, M, S, Std. of Discipline - 336 Pts.
10 Gnoblars, Gnoblar Trappers - 50 Pts.
10 Gnoblars, Gnoblar Trappers - 50 Pts.
7 Ogres, Handweapon & Ironfist, M, S, C - 254 Pts.

4 Maneaters, HA, 4 x Brace of Ogre Pistols, Scouts, Sniper, M, S, Banner of Eternal Flame - 294 Pts.
1 Sabretusks - 21 Pts.
1 Sabretusks - 21 Pts.

Ironblaster - 170 Pts.

Total: 2000

General Bruiser goes with the Ironguts in a 4x2, BSB and Butcher with the bulls in 3x3.

I know there is no dispel scroll but the plan is use the maneater sniping scouts and the death SM to negate their magic in other ways.

Our local tournament players tend to prefer to have a few huge hordes in their armies so I'm going with 2 trapper units to go stand in front of those hordes to make them have to charge the trappers and take tons of dangerous terrain tests.  I think those paired with a Purple Sun template running down the flank should put a huge dent in those big units so the Ogre units can mop up.

The magic items on the bruisers are just to get some additonal protection from Ethereal units which I am going to guess I'll be seeing since the Vampire Counts are the current flavor of the week.

I also makes me glad to know that I need to do something to get this army prepped for Saturday.  Any time I don't have some last minute painting to do, I feel nervous for some reason.  It's only making a 3x3 and 2 5x2 movement trays, but it's something damnit.

Test models WIP, Land Speeder Storm, and upcoming tourneys

Rather than hearing my blab on first, lets jump right into pictures shall we.

The Land Speeder Storm

I've got a magnet on the weapons rail so that I can swap out the Heavy Bolter for something more useful like flamer or plasma.  Nothing ground breaking here.

Trying out a new brand of primer as I didn't have a "go to" white primer.  Everything I've read on the internet says that Dupli-Color Sandable Primer is the best stuff, so I made a trip (ok it was 2 trips to find it in white) down to the Advance Auto Parts.  Stuff was cheap, like 6 bucks a can.  Got both Black and White.  I don't have a ton of experience using it, but I can say so far I dig it.  Paint seems to stick pretty well to it, sprayed as easily as it should and it didn't bunch up anywhere so that I lost any detail.

I decided to use the pilot of the land speeder as my test model.  It's been rough going to say the least, but it's also good to get this figured out now.  First off, I have to find a better white paint.  I think I'll give the GW paint a try, or maybe Vallejo.  I don't like the shade of white it is, plus I hate how much I have to thin it.  I'd like to be able to paint without having to perform a chemistry experiment to get the paint the right thickness.

I wanted to use Turquoise to fit with the theme, but a little goes a long way with that stuff.  It's ok on the jewelry they wear, but anything bigger than that, and it takes over the entire model.

Here's a rough draft if you will of the model. (Sorry for the photo quality)

In these pictures he looks more asian than native american.  I think it has to do with the hair style and skin tone. The above pictures were taken before I added the "Devlan mud" ink wash.  Which I think really helps to darken it up.

Just focus on the face... this model is WAY to rough for a picture this up close.

I've been painting Ogres for too long as I have lost the skill to paint eyes. Ogre eyes are HUGE in comparison.  I ended up resorting back to the old "paint with the end of a toothpick" trick.

In Tournament news, 2k Fantasy tourney this Saturday.  I keep going back and forth on doing the Purple Sun/Slaughtermaster on Flying Carpet list, or just taking a more traditional tried and true Ogre list I normally run.   If this were 2400 points, it would be a no brainer to throw in the flying Slaughtermaster, but at 2k points I feel like I've got too many points wrapped up into characters.  (Feels like 5th edition all over again)

March 3rd, there is a 3200 Double Tourney (1600 per player) and I think I'm going to team up with friend of mine who also plays Ogres.  Only I won't be fielding Ogres...*gasps*  Rather than having 2 of the same army and gaining nothing in diversity, I'm going to be an asshole and field what amounts to an Empire artillery battery.  3 cannons, 2 mortars, a helblaster volley gun(not enough points to drop the steam tank), 2 Lore of Heavens wizards, and enough Handgunners to fill out required points.  I'll nuke our opponent from a far, and the Ogres will run across the board and mop up whats left; OR we've discussed making the Ogres all shooty (maneater snipers, leadbelchers, 2 ironblasters) then just littering the battle field with 100+ gnoblars trappers.  Oh the evil possibilities.  Either way, you can expect to see some pictures of the Empire restoration project.  I can't decide if I want to put any time into getting them up to tabletop quality on the paintjob, or just make sure they meet the WYSIWYG/3 colors up rules.

Until next time, Sigmar OUT!... no that sounds stupid... See you on the battlefield?  meh... Help control the pet population, have your pets spayed and neutered.... Fuck it.

Bye.

Ogre Butcher on Flying Carpet

I've decided that I am going to try running my own Ogre version of the Purple Sun/Lore of Death/Flying caster army. But to do this, I'm going to need some sort of flying caster which technically doesn't exist in the Ogre army because our magic users don't have regular mount options.

We do, however, have the option to spend 50 points of our magic item allowance on the Arabyan Flying Carpet.  Combine this with the cheese of Lore of Death/Greedy Fist sniping enemy wizards, and you got yourself a really interesting idea.

I decided that even though I don't HAVE to add the carpet to the model, I was going to make one all the same.  Sadly the lens on my camera was all sorts of dirty and only a few of my WIP photos are viewable (and even those are bit sad)

So what I've done is remove my Slaughtermaster from his base, and attached two magnets in the footholes where his feet used to be.  I also drilled into the feet of the Slaughtermaster and attached magnets in his shoes.

I turned the regular "flying base" upside down and shaved off the edges so that it was a bit more square.

Then I attached a square that I cut out of a thick paper plate to it and glued the 2 magnets to the square.

I cut a square of the fabric I wanted to use as my carpet and soaked it with Elmer's glue.  Once the glue dried it was very stiff and I don't have to worry about it unraveling (I did the same thing previously with my maneater snipers.)  I layed that over the magnets and super glued it down.

And now the final reveal.....

Now I'm free to choose to field him on the carpet, or on foot.  This took me waaaaaaaaaaay longer than I expected to do, but isn't that always the case.  So many failed attempts at this one.  Thankfully, only Arabyan Carpet per army.
